ವೈದೇಹಿ ಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಓದುವುದೆಂದರೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾದ ಶ್ರಾವಣ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯೊಂದರ ಮೂಲಕ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ... ವೈದೇಹಿಯವರ ಕತೆಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ಹುಟ್ಟು, ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವಗಳು ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ, ಅವುಗಳ ಸಂವೇದನೆಯ ಅವಿಭಾಜ್ಯ ಅಂಶವಾಗಿ, ಕರ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಕವಚ ಕುಂಡಲಗಳಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಇರುವ, ಅವುಗಳ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಓದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷವಾಗುವುದು, ನಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಮಾಡಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು ಅವುಗಳ ಮಾತಿನಿಂದಲೇ. ಇದು ಕೇವಲ ಕತೆಗಾತಿಯ ಜಾಣ್ಮೆ ಅಥವಾ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯದ ವಿಷಯವಲ್ಲ. ಅಥವಾ ಅವರು ಬಳಸುವ ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಸೊಗಡಿನ ವಿಷಯವಲ್ಲ. ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಅಂತರಂಗದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿತವಾದ, ಗೋಚರಕ್ಕೂ ಬರದಷ್ಟು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾದ, ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ ಹೇಳಹೊರಟರೆ ತಮ್ಮ ನೈಜ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಉಡುಗಿ ಹೋಗುವಂತಹ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದ್ದೇ ಆದರೂ ಆಯಾ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳ ಶೀಲವನ್ನು ಅಭಿವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಸುವ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮವಾಗಿ ಇರುವ ಮಾತುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ... ಕತೆಗಾತಿಯಾದ ವೈದೇಹಿಯವರ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿರುವುದು ಈ ಮಾತಿನ ಪ್ರಪಂಚವನ್ನು, ವಾಸ್ತವ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಷ್ಟೇ ಮೂರ್ತವಾದ, ಸಾಂದ್ರವಾದ, ನಿಬಿಡವಾದ ಮಾತಿನ ಪ್ರಪಂಚವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ. ಅವರ ಕತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗುವುದು ನಡೆಯುವುದು ಇವುಗಳ ಅಂಶ ಕಡಿಮೆಯೇ. ಆದರೆ ಮಾತುಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ‘ಘಟಿಸುವುದು’ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಚ್ಚರಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುವಷ್ಟು ವೈವಿಧ್ಯಪೂಣವಾಗಿದೆ, ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣವಾಗಿದೆ.

Janaki Srinivasa Murthy (ಜಾನಕಿ ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ಮೂರ್ತಿ) (born as Vasanti on 12 February 1945), popularly known by her nickname Vaidehi (ವೈದೇಹಿ) is an Indian writer and well-known writer of modern Kannada language fiction. Vaidehi is one of the most successful women writers in the language and a recipient of prestigious national and state-level literary awards. She has won the Sahitya Akademi Award for her collection of short stories, Krauncha Pakshigalu in 2009.
