About the author
Victor-Marie Hugo, 1802 - 1885, war einer der bedeutendsten französischen Schriftsteller. Er verfasste Gedichte, Romane sowie Dramen und betätigte sich als literarischer, aber auch politischer Publizist. Mehrfach war er, als Angehöriger der Pairskammer, Abgeordneter oder Senator, auch direkt politisch aktiv. Sein Werk wird der Romantik, teils dem Realismus zugeordnet.
