Walter Lyall Jacob was born in Dundee, Scotland, on Saint Patrick’s Day, 1935. After studying at the High School of Dundee and Saint Andrews University, he became a solicitor, which was just the start of a very varied career, first as lawyer, then as educator, both in the United Kingdom and, for a time, in the Bahamas. Although initially he taught law to adults, he went on to tutor children in English and maths, which he still does, at the advanced age of eighty-two. It was while teaching English poetry that Walter was hit by the muse, which led him to reduce a variety of thoughts and opinions to verse—some serious, some humorous. This little booklet contains a few of the many that he has written; the others fill several wastepaper baskets!
