In der Einzelfallanalyse über die jüdische und deutsche Ärztin Paula Tobias wird ihr Aberkennungsprozess im Zuge der Judenverfolgung im deutschen NS-Staat als Kampf um die Aufrechterhaltung ihrer deutschen Identität interpretativ rekonstruiert. Auf der Grundlage ihrer 1940 verfassten Autobiografie und zeithistorischen Dokumenten wurde ihr Leben interpretativ rekonstruiert und in den sozio-historischen Kontext eingebettet. Es konnte gezeigt werden, wie sich Paula Tobias’ Konflikt, Jüdin und Deutsche zu sein, als Aberkennungsprozess in der Autobiografie manifestiert. Die Aberkennung ihrer Zugehörigkeit zum deutschen Volke führte sie in einen persönlichen Kampf um die Aufrechterhaltung ihrer deutschen Identität bis in die Emigration.
