About this ebook

Non-metal catalysis may provide new and green methods for obtaining bioactive heterocycles. Many catalysts contain metals, which can be toxic, energy intensive to remove, and require mining of the source materials. By utilizing metal-free catalysts we avoid these issues. This book explores the use of non-metal catalysts when synthesizing various heterocyclic structures with bioactivity.

About the author

Yunfei Du obtained his B.S. (Medicinal Chemistry) in 2001 and M.S. (Organic Chemistry) in 2004 at Hebei University, P. R. China. He pursued his PhD in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Kang Zhao from 2004 to 2007 and stayed as a faculty member in Tianjin University after PhD graduation. In 2009, he was promoted to Associate Professor, and from 2011 to 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow with Prof. Richard P. Hsung at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in USA. He was promoted in 2013 to professor in Tianjin University. Prof. Du’s research mainly focuses on synthetic Organic Chemistry & Medicinal Chemistry: (1) Developing novel synthetic methods, including the application of hypervalent iodine reagents, single-electron oxidants and transition-metal catalysts to construct heterocyclic compounds; (2) Developing novel hypervalent iodine reagents and have them applied to organic synthesis; (3) Exploring new synthetic strategies in the synthesis of some drug intermediates and pharmaceutical reagents. He has published about 130 papers in SCI journals and was selected as one of the ‘Highly Cited Chinese Researchers of 2020’ by Elsevier.

Dr. Bubun Banerjee received his Ph.D. degree from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal, India. He has nearly nine years of experience in the field of research related to green and sustainable developments. Presently he is working as an assistant professor of chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Punjab, India. Dr. Banerjee published more than 100 research articles in the internationally renowned journals and authored fifteen book chapters; he also co-edited eleven books and guest edited eleven different special thematic issues of different journals.
