The earliest known examples of tiles are found in Egypt. Through history tiles were
made by Babylonians, Assyrians and Islamic empire, early tiles can be seen in many
middle-eastern mosques.
The earliest tiles in Western Europe were found in England and Holland. Some of
the most spectacular ceramics are in the great mosque in Cordoba and at the
Alhambra palace in Granada Spain.
