Thomas Paine is an American original and one of the most important minds this country has produced. His convictions made him extremely unpopular in his time. Only six people showed up to his funeral, and 100 years after his death Teddy Roosevelt would refer to him as a "filthy little atheist". All because of this little book.

A lot of nitpicking against semantics in the Bible. There are definitely Christians needing to be set straight (the Bible itself talks of it), but the beauty of Christianity is found by those who follow it and take Christ into their heart and actions. This book is like taking a flower and complaining about the color or form or how strongly its scent is, without seeing the comparative beauty within.

This should be required reading in all public schools where students must recite the Pledge of Allegiance in which the phrase "under God" was inserted not by its author, but by Christian lobbyists under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Two thousand years of manipulation, half truths and outright lies should be subject to the light of day, not the dusk of mumbo jumbo.
