Die Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten gehören zu den derzeit am schnellsten wachsenden und meistverbreiteten christlichen Gemeinschaften der Welt. Ihre Besonderheit liegt nicht nur in der Feier des Sabbats und einer Naherwartung der Wiederkunft Christi, sondern auch in einer an Gesundheit orientierten Lebensweise. Durch Interviews mit Mitgliedern einer österreichischen Adventgemeinde gibt der Autor einen Einblick in Selbstverständnis und Lebenspraxis von Adventisten und ordnet diese in historische und theologische Darstellungen dieser freikirchlichen Tradition ein. Die adventistische Gemeinde wird so auf drei zusammenhängenden Ebenen analysiert: historisch-systematisch, als soziale Gemeinschaft und als Faktor des individuellen Alltagslebens. Seventh-day Adventists are among the fastest-growing and most widespread Christian denominations worldwide. Their characteristic features are not only the observation of the Sabbath and the imminent expectation of the Second Coming of Christ, but also a specific lifestyle orientated towards health and longevity. Based on interviews with members of an Adventist church in Austria, the author offers insight into self-understanding and lifestyle of Seventh-day Adventists. The interviews are contextualized within a historical and theological analysis of Seventh-day Adventism. The Adventist church is thus characterized on the basis of three related dimensions, first a historical-systematic, second a social, and third an individual perspective.
