Cabrero was a member of the ‘Escuela de Madrid’, a group of young architects who rebelled against the idea of a national architecture in favour of a different, more modern architecture. Famous in Spain for his design for the Cruz de los Caídos or the Casa Sindical, Cabrero was appreciated for his in-depth knowledge of Italy, seen through Spanish eyes. His first journey to Italy in 1942 was revealing: the Italian modern movement, with its algid discipline that had created a new reality, was behind Cabrero’s education, training and creative universe.
