Leon Goldensohn was in het voorjaar van 1946 als psychiater in Neurenberg verantwoordelijk voor de fysieke en psychische toestand van ongeveer twintig gevangen Duitse leiders die daar terechtstonden. Onder hen waren belangrijke nazi-oorlogsmisdadigers als Hermann Göring, Rudolf Hess en Albert Speer. Goldensohn legde de gesprekken die hij voerde nauwkeurig vast.
