Great stand alone read. I loved the dark fantasy mixed with reality. I don't think he achieved his desires goal of redeeming the Orc. The orc is a bastard, but that makes him awesome. I do love me a bastard interacting with a cruel harsh world. The magic seeping out of the world, the old nightmares of the past becoming myth. Author deserves a lot of praise.

Scott Oden was born in Indiana, but has spent most of his life shuffling between his home in rural North Alabama, a Hobbit hole in Middle-earth, and some sketchy tavern in the Hyborian Age. He studied history and English at the University of Alabama. He is an avid reader of fantasy and ancient history, a collector of swords, and a player of tabletop role-playing games.
