Brother Odd: An Odd Thomas Novel

I absolutely loved all the characters and wanted to have them win. Odd finds himself living in a monastery trying to create some peace in his life after his recent heartbreak and chaos. Well wouldn't you know it, chaos finds him wherever he lies. With the help of a Russian, Boo the dog, Elvis, Sister Angela, the supporting cast of Brothers, and some beautiful children...Odd cracks the case to reveal such a twist. It is somewhat predictable, but it's still so much fun seeing how the story unfolds. The evils shown are mysterious and unlike his previous books. You know where it's coming from, but not how. I don't know how DK outdid the first Odd, but he did so in fantastic fashion. Odd Thomas (first book) had the absolute best ending... Makes me wet in the eyes just thinking about it, but the story within the pages of this book is so much deeper... better. It hurts to say, but this book is superior to the original. A much deserved 5/5

Spoiler free review! Unpopular opinion: at 75% through this installment, I have found it to be a challenge to get through. I consume novels like a fiend, but something about this particular book seems to have a much slower pace than the first two. I read the first two in one day, but this one is taking weeks. The big bad is very difficult to comprehend. The descriptions he gives are convoluted. It is not for my lack of imagination, I make a comfortable living as an artist. Creativity puts food on the table, and I read a couple hundred books each year. I'll read anything. Literature is my escape from the stress of reality, and Lovecraft isn't even this confusing. I gave it five stars because I have faith in the series, the character he's developed, and it is well written, albeit slow. I hope Elvis stays. In silence he speaks volumes. I'm more attached to him than I was Stormy. That is solid writing. I'm not even an Elvis fan! However, I have a bad feeling he's headed for service.

At last, the third installment in the series of books about our friend "Odd Thomas" all written by Dean Koontz. I have previously blogged about the first two books: Odd Thomas and Forever Odd.<br/><br/>When we completed the story of Forever Odd, Odd was living in a monastery with other monks. Brother Odd begins by introducing Odd's life in the monastery and introducing several monks and sisters in residence. All seems well until Odd starts to see images of possible future disasters which could kill alot of the children in long-term care at the monastery hospital. Recall the first two books focused on Odd's ability to see into the future. The story progressed into the realm of the strange as several, ah ah, demons began to appear. So, no you believe this story is all about demons and monsters; well, that is what I thought until the story took a twist into the realm of Science-Fiction. I won't spoil it for you. Let's just say the story got really strange (in a good way).<br/><br/>I can highly recommend all three books of the series and I am becoming a big fan of Dean Koontz! I do recommend you read the books in order as they do build on each other: 1) Odd Thomas, 2) Forever Odd and 3) Brother Odd.<br/>
