I bulli sono ovunque, ma il tredicenne Sal Vidón sa come gestire quelli della peggior specie come Yasmany Robles: basta aprire un portale verso un altro universo, prendere un pollo crudo e infilarlo nel suo armadietto. Se poi nessuno ti vede e il pollo scompare, un ragazzo come Sal, mago dalle mille risorse, può mentire e liquidare l'accaduto come una potente illusione. Ma non puoi aprire un varco spazio-temporale senza conseguenze. Sal viene infatti spedito dalla preside per la terza volta in tre giorni (ed è solo la sua prima settimana nella nuova scuola), ma soprattutto incontra Gabi Reál, presidentessa del consiglio studentesco e direttrice del giornale della scuola, che non gli crede e intende smascherarlo. Fin quando Gabi scopre che Sal può aprire varchi verso altri universi e recuperare ciò che vuole, inclusa la sua mamma morta, e decide di aiutarlo a controllare il suo potere. C'è solo un effetto collaterale: la loro manipolazione del tempo e dello spazio potrebbe mandare in frantumi l'intero universo.
