About this ebook

A stubborn human. A ruthless alpha bear. A claim that can’t be denied.

Julian lives in a world of numbers and logic, and the last thing he needs is a client who never listens. But when that client—alpha bear shifter Torin—finally shows up, it isn’t to talk business. Torin is done with the nagging accountant… and determined to put Julian in his place.

One heated encounter changes everything. Julian isn’t just any human—he’s Torin’s fated mate. Too bad Julian is straight, furious, and completely unaware of shifters.

Torin should walk away, but his bear refuses to let go. He’ll claim his mate, no matter how reluctant Julian is.

Julian may despise the masked intruder who keeps invading his life, but the fire between them can’t be ignored.

Could it be that the stubborn human and the possessive bear are the perfect match after all?

Excerpt:

Julian heard the commotion from the reception area. It sounded like Lydia was trying to stop someone from entering. He moved through the doorway.

“What’s going on here?” Julian asked in his most authoritative voice.

The large mountain of a man turned toward him.

“Are you Julian Monroe?”

Julian wanted to decline, but he knew if he backed down now, the man would always believe he could walk all over him. He had plenty of clients who had tried that approach and failed.

“Yes, I am,” Julian said calmly, meeting the man’s eyes without blinking.

The man’s eyes seemed to look him over as if he were judging him and finding him an easy target.

Julian lifted his chin. If the man thought his height would give him the upper hand, he would have to think again.

The man smiled as he walked toward him.

“We need to talk.”

“Then you have to make an appointment with my secretary.”

The man towered over him. It sounded as if he was sniffing him. Then a brief look of surprise passed over his face.

“What the fuck…?” the man grunted out the words.

The man looked confused and bewildered. As if something had suddenly knocked him off his high horse and refused to let go. It didn’t last long. He placed his palm on Julian’s neck and forced him to move.

“Take me to your office,” he growled at him.

“What for?” Julian objected and refused to move. But the guy was too strong for him.

“Or I’ll carry you there, Julian,” the man said in a low voice.

Julian whirled around and tried to push him away. The man wasn’t budging at all.

“I’m calling the police.”

The man tightened his grip on his neck.

“No, you won’t. We’ll do this quickly, or I will put you over my shoulder and carry you there.”

“Alright. I can spare a few minutes,” Julian relented. He turned to Lydia to make sure she knew he was still in control of the situation. “Lydia, please tell the rest of my team that they can start the meeting without me.”

“Yes, sir.”

Julian led the way to his office and sat down in his chair. “What is this about?”

“You’re handling the Bearclaw Mountain account?”

“That’s private information. I can’t answer that.”

“Quit the bullshit. I recognise your name from the nagging emails we receive every week.”

“Right. Then you must be Torin Wilder?”

“Yes.” The man moved closer and leaned over Julian’s desk.

Julian pulled back instinctively.

“Are you scared of me, human?” Torin sounded more smug than he should.

“No, why would I?”

“You really have no idea what I am, do you?”

Julian was tiring of this bullshit. He hated it when clients looked at his short and skinny body and thought they could bully him into doing extra work for them. He straightened his back and gave the man in front of him a firm look.

“Just say what you have to say and get out. I have more important things to do than to deal with a bully.”

Torin laughed. “You seriously need a good spanking, pup. But don’t worry. I’m most eager to give you what you need.”

Julian looked at him in confusion.

“Why don’t we stick to business instead of throwing out threats? I have plenty of witnesses around.”

“You’re right. This isn’t the time or place for what I have in mind.”

Torin leaned in, grabbed Julian’s shoulder and sniffed him one more time. Julian pulled away, but he could still feel the man’s lips touch his shoulder before Torin retreated.

“Some other time,” Torin said before he headed for the door.

Julian glared at him in confusion. The large man left more quietly than should be expected of someone so big.

‘What the hell did he want? Had he only wanted to scare him? Or was he searching for something else?’

Julian took a deep breath. For a moment, he had been sure that the man wanted to take a bite at him. But that couldn’t be the case. Even the most demanding clients didn’t go around biting their accountants.
