About the author

Brancardier sur les champs de bataille du Nord et de l'Est de la France, Roger Vercel (1894-1957), envoyé comme officier sur le front d'Orient, ne fut démobilisé qu'un an après l'armistice. Ses souvenirs de guerre inspirèrent plusieurs de ses livres, parmi lesquels Notre père Trajan, Léna, et bien évidemment Capitaine Conan, Prix Goncourt 1934.
