La disciplina della Rappresentazione è entrata intorno agli anni Settanta del Novecento nelle università italiane, per prima la Facoltà di Architettura di Roma, fino a essere definitivamente riconosciuta dal MIUR nel 1993 con il D.M. 24.2.1993, che definisce la Tabella XXX con lo statuto dei corsi di laurea delle Facoltà di Architettura (Gazzetta Ufficiale n. 153, del 2.7.1993). Tra le undici aree disciplinari costituenti i saperi caratterizzanti la formazione dei giovani architetti l’area XI, definita “Rappresentazione dell’Architettura e dello Spazio”, raggruppa le discipline del Disegno, della Geometria descrittiva e del Rilevamento.
