About this ebook

A brave mouse, a covetous rat, a wishful serving girl, and a princess named Pea come together in Kate DiCamillo's Newbery Medal–winning tale.

Welcome to the story of Despereaux Tilling, a mouse who is in love with music, stories, and a princess named Pea. It is also the story of a rat called Roscuro, who lives in the darkness and covets a world filled with light. And it is the story of Miggery Sow, a slow-witted serving girl who harbors a simple, impossible wish. These three characters are about to embark on a journey that will lead them down into a horrible dungeon, up into a glittering castle, and, ultimately, into each other's lives. What happens then? As Kate DiCamillo would say: Reader, it is your destiny to find out.
With black-and-white illustrations and a refreshed cover by Timothy Basil Ering.

Reader, you must know that an interesting fate (sometimes involving rats, sometimes not) awaits almost everyone, mouse or man, who does not conform. - The Tale of Despereaux This is a kids book, and as such it's very simplistic in its writing. It does go into deeper meaning: courage, love, forgiveness, the power of stories, and the idea that being different can be a strength. I appreciated the book touching down on these wonderful meanings with a brave mouse at the helm... letting the reader know you don't have to be a the biggest and strongest to make an impact on someone's life. To change things with courage and conviction. I have been wanting to read this one for a while with high expectations (always bad to go into a book with such), and I was left without the satisfaction expected. It's ok, not knocking the book on that since I'm not the target reader. It was nicely written with very nice artwork. Great kids book and an ok book for adults to read. 2.5/5

The book is about a mouse who falls in love with a princess. His father does not allow that. His sisters and brother's try to teach him to be a normal mouse but he is .....SPECIAL.

I love this children's book! The pictures are simplistic and they fit the mood and tone of the story. The characters are compelling and likeable.
