"Runter vom Bock und keine Dummheiten, alter Mann", zischte der schlanke Bursche, der sein Pferd neben ihn lenkte und dabei eine Parker Gun mit abgesägtem Doppellauf auf ihn richtete. Roddy beeilte sich, dem Befehl Folge zu leisten. Wortlos sprang er von der Kutsche und legte seine Hände in den Nacken, bevor er auf die Knie sank. Hinter ihm erhob die junge Frau in der Kabine ihre Stimme: "Lasst ihn in Ruhe, bitte!"
Er grinste schief, doch im nächsten Moment traf ein brutaler Hieb seinen Hinterkopf und ließ ihn bewusstlos in den Staub der Straße stürzen.
