Aleida Assmann

Aleida Assmann is Professor of English Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Konstanz, Germany. She has been Guest Professor at Rice, Princeton, Yale, Chicago and Vienna. Her research interests include the history and media theory of reading and writing, cultural concepts of time and historical anthropology. A central and ongoing focus of her research has been the study of memory as an individual, collective and cultural phenomenon, including literary representations of trauma. Recent publications include Cultural Memory and Western Civilisation (2012) and Memory in a Global Age (2010) which she co-edited with Sebastian Conrad.
