Gabrielle Roy

Gabrielle Roy (1909?1983) was a Canadian author from St. Boniface, Manitoba and one of the major figures in French Canadian literature. She was the first Canadian to win France's Prix Femina for her novel Bonheur d'occasion. Over the course of her lengthy and prolific career, Gabrielle Roy received many honours, including three Governor General's Awards, the Companion of the Order of Canada, the Medal of the Canada Council, the Prix David, and the Prix Molson.
