Harsh Kumar Gupta (born 1942) is an Indian Earth scientist and seismologist, known for his pioneering work estimating reservoir-induced earthquakes.[1] He is a former Vice-chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Director of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad, and Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Ocean Development.[2] A recipient of the 1983 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, the highest Indian award in the science and technology category, and [3] the 2008 Waldo E. Smith Award of the American Geophysical Union, [4] Gupta was awarded the fourth highest Indian civilian honor of the Padma Shri in 2006
