Katie Parla

Katie Parla is a Rome-based food and beverage writer, culinary guide, cookbook author, and educator who has spent over two decades studying, writing about, and teaching Italian cuisine and culture. Born and raised in New Jersey, she studied art history at Yale before moving to Rome in 2003, where she earned a master's degree in Italian gastronomic culture from the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata and a sommelier certification from the Federazione Italiana Sommelier Albergatori Ristoratori (FISAR). Parla's work focuses on the intersection of food, history, and place, with a particular emphasis on Rome and southern Italy. She has authored or co-authored numerous books, including Tasting Rome, Food of the Italian South, Food of the Italian Islands, and American Sfoglino, as well as travel and dining guides for publications such as The New York Times, Eater, The Guardian, Bon Appétit, and Condé Nast Traveler.
