R. D. Blackmore (1825–1900) was a celebrated English novelist best known for his romantic historical novel Lorna Doone. A pioneer of the regional novel and one of the earliest Victorian authors to blend the genres of romance, history, and social critique, Blackmore was admired for his vivid descriptions, memorable characters, and philosophical insights. Though overshadowed today, his works were highly respected by contemporaries such as Thomas Hardy and Alfred Tennyson.
