Solomon Northup (1807–1863) was a free African American who lived as a farmer, carpenter, and accomplished violinist before being kidnapped and enslaved. Though the details of his later life remain uncertain, his legacy lives on in his unforgettable memoir—an enduring beacon of truth, justice, and the human spirit.
