Bloom After Shahada: A Revert’s Guide to Flourishing in Islam

By Joyful Hijabi

You embraced Islam. You whispered the shahada. And now... you're wondering what comes next.

Bloom After Shahada is a heartfelt guide for Muslim reverts navigating the sacred, and sometimes silent, journey of growing in faith after conversion. From the first time praying in a mosque to the quiet victories no one sees, this book explores what it means to truly flourish after saying La ilaha illa Allah.

Written by a fellow revert, this third installment in the beloved Shahada Series walks gently with you through real-life moments of spiritual growth, identity, patience, love, and quiet joy. Each chapter offers stories, reflections, and soul-soothing encouragement rooted in lived experience, not scholarly debate, making space for you to grow with grace.

Inside, you'll find:

Reflections on identity, belonging, and balancing family and faith

Stories of love, loss, patience, and finding strength after hardship

Gentle reminders on tawakkul (trust), istikharah, gratitude, and the beauty of everyday worship

A personal, non-scholarly voice walking with you, not ahead of you

Whether you're months or years into your journey, Bloom After Shahada is a companion for the heart. A book to cry with, smile with, and hold onto when you need to remember that you're not alone — and you are growing.

You don't need to bloom perfectly. You need to bloom sincerely.

This is your next chapter.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

I'm a Muslim revert from Chicago. I embraced Islam in December 2000 at the Muslim Community Center on Elston Avenue — nervous, tearful, and full of emotions I couldn't yet name. That day changed my life.

Long before faith, I loved stories. As a child, I gathered my playmates to role-play as a teacher. In high school, I joined the English Guild, where I found solace in poetry and reflection. Writing was always my way of making sense of the world.

After becoming Muslim, I started a private du'a journal — a quiet space for my whispered prayers. The prayers in this book come straight from that journal: honest prayers for real moments on the revert path.

Today, I write as Joyful Hijabi—not as a scholar but as a sister, a storyteller, a soul who's stumbled, stood up again, and kept walking toward Allah. My books are written from the heart: gentle reflections, heartfelt prayers, and reminders that your journey—no matter how imperfect—is valid, sacred, and seen by the One who matters most.

Because sometimes, lived experience is the most honest kind of credential. May Allah (swt) ease my burden as I continue writing this heartfelt series for reverts because our stories matter and deserve to be told with love. Ameen
