About the Author
Joyful Hijabi embraced Islam in Chicago in 2000. Since then, her journey has included everything from spiritual highs to moments of profound isolation.
She writes for the hearts of reverts — not as a scholar, but as a sister who knows how it feels to search, stumble, and surrender. Her After Shahada series is a love letter to the reverts who are learning how to belong, heal, and bloom in Islam.
Why I Wrote This Series
I wrote this series because I remember how it felt to stand at the edge of a new life after saying the shahada—hopeful, overwhelmed, and full of questions. As a revert myself, I longed for a companion who spoke from the heart of someone who understood. Like reassurance. Like someone whispering, “You’re not alone.”
This isn’t just a series. It’s a journey of belonging. And I pray that somewhere in these pages, you find pieces of your own story, too.
Your sister in faith,
Joyful Hijabi
