About this ebook

A winged alpha king. A fated human mate. An enemies-to-lovers prophecy.Ā

King Kabril of the Buteos Regalis shifters has no interest in taking a human mate. His kind—dominant, powerful bird shifters—see humans as weak, earthbound creatures who rely on machines to soar. Yet a prophecy foretells that only by claiming his fated mate can he restore fertility to his people.

The catch? His fated mate isĀ human.

Rayna Vogel is a fiercely independent woman, living an ordinary life on Earth—until a dangerously sexy, arrogant king crashes into her world, demanding she belongs to him. With enemies lurking in the shadows and an ancient war on the verge of reigniting, Kabril and Rayna must navigate a whirlwind ofĀ forbidden attraction, destiny, and danger.

As tensions rise, so do the stakes. Kabril is determined to claim her. Rayna refuses to be tamed. But when the bond between them ignites, neither can deny the fire that burns between them.

Kabril is looking for his true mate but does not really think he will find her. His best friend Sachin already knows who the kings mate is and helps set the backstory for who they are and what they are doing there. Rayna lives next door and meets them when she takes a welcome meal to them. The characters have quite the adventure as they get to know each other and feel the pull. The storyline has several plots with a war starting, a need to find his mate, and a century old problem of not babies being born. However, there is a prophesy about the king and his mate restarting the babies arriving. Loved the sneaky best friend who keeps Kabril on the straight path to Rayna. The younger brother keeping it all together back home and the first children on the way. Fantastic start to a great new series.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the King of Prey series. I'm a big fan of paranormal romance, especially shifter romance but wasn't quite sure about this one for the first chapter or two. Kabril is king of the Hawk shifters and they don't live in the earth realm so this was a little different to me. I'm use to shifters who live among humans. This book has a bit of a medieval feel to it and it didn't take long to pull me in. I had to laugh at Kabril trying to act like a human to court Rayna. He's on Earth because the prophecy states his mate is human and finding her will restore children to their kind. Kabril is use to wielding the power of being a king but Rayna has no idea who he is so she's not impressed or inclined to give into his demands. Because of this she also has no clue about his enemies that would want to harm her. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Talk about a lovable--cocky--alpha shifter who is totally unprepared to love a human woman....King Kabril has to find his mate to keep his subjects fertile. No shifter female has fit the bill, however when the gods tell him he has to go to earth, oh yeah, they live in a different realm, he is disgusted. Earth women are dirty insignificant creatures. Wellllll, maybe not. When he reluctantly arrives he spots a woman who does fit the bill. Alas she is not his chosen one. Still he can't resist her. The dialogue is hilarious. Watching this alpha to the point of being obnoxious, male try to court an earth woman is a hoot. (pun intended as he is a bird shifter) from offering weeds as flowers to hiding why a chicken casserole is not exactly mouth watering is a fun romp. Add in an impending war and enemies out to hurt him any way they can and you have a really enjoyable read.

About the author

NY Times & USA TODAY Bestselling Author of the Daughter of Darkness, Grimm Cove, and the Immortal Ops Series!

Mandy M. Roth grew up fascinated by creatures that go bump in the night. From the very beginning, she showed signs of creativity--writing, painting, telling scary stories that left her little brother afraid to come out from under his bed. Combining her creativity with her passion for the paranormal has left her banging on the keyboard into the wee hours of the night.

She's a self-proclaimed Goonie, loves 80s music and movies, and wishes leg warmers would come back into fashion. She also thinks the movie The Breakfast Club should be mandatory viewing for... okay, everyone. When she's not dancing around her office to the sounds of the 80s or writing books she can be found designing book covers for NY publishers, small press and indie authors.
