About this ebook

All You Need for Certification Exam Success!

"This is a well written, comprehensive review aimed at preparing readers for successfully completing a board certification exam. ...This is a wonderful comprehensive review in a concise study guide format." (5 Stars)--Doody's Book Review Service

This mega-review, the second of Maria Codina Leik's "trilogy" of NP Certification guides (Family was published in July and Pediatric is due in 2008) covers test taking tips using Leik's unique "question dissection" technique, relevant content review, extensive practice questions, and detailed, current exam information in a "fast facts" style, saving the student valuable study time while providing comprehensive preparation. This book is also a great companion to the ANP Certification Review app, coming soon for your iPhone or iPad!

Pass your Adult Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANP exam, prepare for tests in school, or improve in the last semester of your program with:

  1. Photos and physical exam maneuvers that promote visualization and clarify techniques
  2. Organ system reviews divided into four parts; descriptions of emergent conditions, high-yield normal physical exam findings, maneuvers, and applicable benign variants
  3. Tables on orthopedic maneuvers, immunizations, STDs, lab tests, skins rashes, and more to help you organize and recall procedures

  4. Differentiation between Family and Adult Practice with inclusion of geriatric procedures and specifications

Students say:"I took this class in 2003 and I did pass my Adult NP ANCC exam soon after. Ms. Leik's class gave practical information, essential concepts for studying, and core topics on which to focus. I would recommend this class to others as an essential component in ensuring success in passing the certification exam." - Cynthia Milich, CNP

I JUST passed the ANCC ANP exam (whew) and consider Maria Leik's book a must have. To study, I used an number of sources. B4 I found Leik my favs were (best to worst): APEA (totally enjoyable but incomplete), FHEA (good, some gaps esp. enough assessment & non-clinical), ePocrates Online & Wikipedia (both free & fantastic), Zerwekh (great but old), Winland (some chapters were super, others had gross errors [frustrating]; HLA '99 (too simplistic), HLA 2005 (too verbose). Despite all the above, I sometimes found it frustrating to quickly fill specific gaps often on basic concepts then I found Maria Leik's ANP Intensive Review on Google Books. I was only a few weeks away from my test date and really didn't want to complicate the process but the limited online version was so helpful, I ordered the book. Maria's book is the most current available. It is clear, concise, has great tables and it has assessment specifics. The questions at the end allowed me to do 3 time practice exams -- a nice plus. I think my ANCC ANP exam focused way too much on the non-clinical/softer/issues stuff & none of my review sources had enough on this. Maria's book & the Winland-Brown questions were, however, the best in this regard. If you're studying for the ANP exam, don't use just one source (or as many as I used) but definitely make sure Maria Leik's new ANP Intensive Review is one of your sources. Marta Krissovich, APRN-BC

Although it came highly recommended, I was disappointed. I can't complain about the 500 practice questions yet, but there were enough blatant errors and inconsistencies throughout the book that I don't trust the content and am relying primarily on Fitzgerald. <p> Some examples<b> * throughout the book, the abbreviation "i.e.," is erroneously, albeit consistently, used to mean "for example" instead of "e.g.," - not serious, but just sloppy<b> *p. 171 "Barrett's esophagus (a precancer), which increases the risk of squamous cell cancer" - actually it is adenocarcinoma, SCC of the esophagus is associated with ETOH and tobacco use<b> *p. 259 "Digoxin (warfarin sodium)..."<b> *p. 260 "Mini-Mental Exam (MME)" - no it's the "Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) - Although there are indeed 5 sections of the exam she lists those sections as "Orientation," "Attention and Calculation," "Recall," "Write a sentence," and "Copy a design". Although the first 3 are actual sections (albeit out of order), the other 2 are "Registration" and "Language." In fact her latter 2 sections are but components of the "Language" section.<b> *p. 264 "Levodopa-carbidopa (Symmetrel)..."
