Dr P Sikka holds a Bachelor’s degree in Basic Science from Meerut University, Meerut. She did Master’s and PhD (Biochemistry) from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agricultural and Technology, Pantnagar, (Uttrakhand, India). She had been a visiting Professor at Washington State University, Pullman USA. She served ICAR, New Delhi as Agricultural Research Scientist (Animal Biochemistry) at ICAR Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes starting as a scientist since Oct, 1986 till Nov. 2020 for 35 years.
She worked on elucidating the metabolic status of animals under different feeding regimens as co-investigator in ICAR and Indo-Australlian collaboration sponsored Buffalo Nutrition Improvement Programmes, effect of oxidative stress due to cryopreservation and seasonal variation in relation to male fertility under Buffalo Reproduction Efficiency Improvement Programme and Identification of biomarkers/ molecular markers applying genomics tools generating trait based SNP databases, Identifying genomic variants to select high merit bulls in fields and farm under ILRI and ICAR sponsored Buffalo Genetic Improvement Programme at institute. She served institute as Head, Breeding and Genetics Division for five years. She obtained doctorate degree for carrying out the work on antibody production against steroid hormones and establishing immunoassays for buffalo reproductive hormone profiling in induced estrus. She is regularly involved in various academic and research management assignments of different universities / research institutes, departments and organisations at states and national level.
