About this ebook

Ruminant nutrition does not overlap the human nutrition and the nutrition of other mammals, the basic difference is that they have 4 stomach and ruminants can survive on cellulose and some minerals, however other mammals need starch, protein, fats and minerals & vitamins. The ruminants synthesize lactose protein and fat with the help of microbes present in their rumen. The rumen is the first stomach, it has a capacity of over 80 litres. It has an anaerobic environment with high temperature and slightly acidic pH (6.8).

The details of calf feeding are explained in this book.

Hope this book helps the dairy nutritionist farmers and veterinary students in understanding the importance of rumen nutrition for milk production. Your criticism and inquiries are welcome. The author is very much thankful to the farmers and veterinary students, veterinary doctors for giving the suggestion for writing this book.
