About this ebook

Solomon Northup was a free man—a husband, father, and gifted violinist living peacefully in New York. But in 1841, his world shattered when he was kidnapped, drugged, and sold into slavery in the Deep South. Twelve Years a Slave is his harrowing, true account of survival against unimaginable cruelty.

From the lash of the whip to the quiet strength of dignity, Northup’s voice rises through the darkness with honesty and power. A gripping narrative of injustice, endurance, and the indomitable will to be free, this memoir remains one of the most important firsthand testimonies of American slavery ever written.
